The meeting took place as a dialogue session prior to the first G20 Trade and Investment working group (TIWG) meeting.
Members of the Think 20 (T20) Argentina participated in the seminar “Key Options for 2018 G20 Trade and Investment Agenda for Sustainable Development”, organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the T20 working group on Trade, Investment and Tax Cooperation.
The event took place on Sunday 6 of May in Buenos Aires, prior to the first Trade and Investment working group meeting (TIWG) and had two objectives. Firstly, to support TIWG officials in their reflections on what the G20 can and should do on trade and investment policy cooperation, with a focus on the multilateral trading system and protectionism, a sustainable food future, and an inclusive digital economy. Second, to offer a neutral space for information exchange and frank discussion outside of formal negotiating settings, where consensus-building can be facilitated and new ideas freely explored.
The opening speeches were given by Julia Pomares, executive director of CIPPEC and a chair of the T20 Argentina, Ricardo Melendez-Ortiz, director of ICTSD and co-chair of the Trade, Investment and Tax Cooperation Task Force, and Pablo Ava, co-chair of the Policy and Research team. The main speaker of the seminar was Horacio Reyser, secretary of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship. After his speech, three thematic sessions with panels and group discussions took place.
