Marcos Peña takes part in the T20

The Argentine Chief of Staff will converse with think tank representatives who are participating in the Inception Workshop: Vision and Strategies for 2018.

The Argentine Chief of Staff, Marcos Peña, will attend this Friday the Think 20’s (T20), a G20 engagement group consisting of think tanks, Inception Workshop: Vision and Strategies for 2018 which takes place in the Palacio San Martín. Peña will talk to T20 think tank representatives in a space coordinated by Julia Pomares, the executive director of CIPPEC.

The main objective of the event is for Task Force groups to have their first formal encounter to begin their work. During the two days, the experts will meet in sessions to define their priorities, work agendas and to coordinate their research. Following the event, each Task Force will aim to produce public policy recommendations around each group’s topic. The proposals will be given to the G20 presidency during the T20 Summit which will take place during 16 to 18 September in Buenos Aires.

The event will include two keynote sessions. Economist Jeffrey Sachs, expert in economic development, global macroeconomics and the fight against poverty, will speak in the first keynote. Sachs is director of The Center for Sustainable Development at the University of Columbia and of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.  He is on the T20 Advisory Board too.

Alfonso Vegara will speak at the second keynote session. He is an architect, economist and sociologist, who specializes in the design and innovation of cities. He is founder and honorary president of Fundación Metrópoli and member of the Eisenhower Foundation.

There will also be plenary sessions on important topics for Argentina: The Future of Work and Education for the Digital Age, Climate Action & Infrastructure for Development, Global Governance Issues in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture. There is also a plenary session on the challenges of social cohesion in uncertain political scenarios and their implications for global governance, which is a new topic for the T20, incorporated by CARI and CIPPEC.

The event will finish with a formal presentation from the engagement groups and a roundtable on “What can the G20 achieve during 2018? Challenges and expectations”.
