Roundtable: What can the G20 achieve during 2018? Challenges and expectations

Experts will gather at T20 Argentina during 1-2 February to share their opinion of how the Latin American country can make sure the G20 Summit and process goes well during 2018.

The Think 20 (T20) community will come together in Buenos Aires on the 1-2 February to take part in the Inception Workshop: “Vision and Strategies for 2018”. This is the first formal event organised by T20 Argentina where the Task Forces will be able to meet for the first time face-to-face.

During the event there will be a roundtable called “What can the G20 achieve during 2018? Challenges and expectations” which will debate how Argentina can ensure the G20 is a success in 2018. It will take place on 2 February at 15:00 and will be moderated by Silvia Naishtat, a journalist and editor of Clarín – a prominent Argentine publication.

There are five panelists who will be taking part in the roundtable as well. First there is Jorge Argüello, the president of the Embajada Abierta Foundation. Argüello has held roles such as being ambassador to Portugal, the United States and the Argentine representative at the United Nations.

The second panelist is Felix Peña, the Director of International Trade at the ICBC Foundation, Vice-President of the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI) and the co-chair of the T20 Argentina Task Force “Social Cohesion, Global Governance and the Future of Politics”. Fernando Straface is the third panelist, secretary-general of foreign affairs of the City of Buenos Aires.

The fourth panelist is Joseph S. Tulchin, who is a former Director of the Latin American Program at the Wilson Center and served from 1989 to 2005. Tulchin holds a PhD in history from Harvard University and has spent 25 years teaching – first at Yale and then at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The fifth panelist is Marilou Uy, Director of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four on International Monetary Affairs and Development (G-24).

During the workshop, participants will also be able to attend other events such as keynote presentations from Jeffrey Sachs and Antonio Vegara and plenary sessions where they will learn about a wide range of topics which are: the future of work and education in the digital era, social cohesion, global governance and the future of politics, climate change and infrastructure for development and food security and sustainable agriculture.
